Hi Beauties!
Today we will take a closer look at Urban Decay's new 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil and whether it lives up to the hype and the stellar reputation Urban Decay has in my book.

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil packaging

Urban Decay recently released their new 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil. I received a free sample of this liner in my Urban Decay order a few weeks ago (check out that review of UD's eyeshadow duo and Naked lip gloss here.)

I have to say, this is the first Urban Decay product that hasn't lived up to the hype, and my expectations.
I wore this eyeliner everyday and every time I had a different problem with it.

Halfway through the first day it smudged all over my eyes.
The second day it just melted away and disappeared.
The other days it would apply nicely but end up fading and streaking.

Now let's take a look at the claims Urban Decay makes about this eyeliner versus the actual results.
The claims on their website are a little different than the ones in the sample package I received, but we will examine both sets of claims and I'll give the real life results.

Claim: "Create perfectly blended-out lines or rich, precise lines that are blacker-than-black"
Reality: Yes, you can create blended or precision lines. However, they are not blacker than black and they do not last long.

Claim: "Blends easily and dries down to a waterproof finish that won't budge!"
Reality: It is easy to blend. It does not dry waterproof, it streaks and smudges all over the place. So, it does budge!!!

Claim: "More powdery than our original 24/7 Eye Pencils, 24/7 Velvet blends easier to create soft, smoky edge"
Reality: Yes, it is more powdery and blends very easily, but it does not create a smoky look, it streaks on and around the eye.

Swatch of Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet

Overall, this eyeliner is waxy and tugs when applied, then it smudges and streaks shortly after application. It is not a well formulated eyeliner 👎

This is my first disappointment in a product from Urban Decay.
For the price it's pretty absurd.
I've had drugstore brands with better color and staying power.
Urban Decay's original 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil has better color pay off, doesn't streak, and lasts longer.
