Hey Makeup Lovers!

 Today I’m doing another fall 2023 makeup trend for you. Or should I say trends?

There are actually three lipstick looks that are huge for this fall.

They are varying levels of difficulty. But don’t worry, I break each one down for you so you can totally slay whatever lipstick look you like.😎

First of all, red or crimson lips are major this fall. 

They kind of always are (much to my delight, I’m a big red lipstick fan if ya couldn’t tell), but red is very much in style this fall.

The lipstick looks you will be able to achieve after reading this post (and/or watching my video) are: 

1.“Worn-In” Lipstick

2. Blinged Out/Bejeweled Lipstick

3. Bold Ombre Lipstick

Which Red is Right for Me?

There are many different answers to this question. And if you Google it you can find a plethora of suggestions based on your skin tone, hair color, etc. 

Great advice. 

But the real answer is: whatever red you like! 

If there is a shade that makes you feel incredibly beautiful and confident, wear it!

Don’t let beauty “rules” dent your confidence. 

If you haven't found a red lipstick you love and are still looking, a good basic guideline is to look at your skin’s undertones (cool, warm, neutral) and go for red shades with the same ones.

Lipstick VS. Liquid Lipstick

Good debate.

The difference between the two?

Traditional lipstick is a solid crayon-like, well, stick. You apply it by gently rubbing it across your lips.

Liquid lipstick is a liquid pigment that requires a little more precision when gliding it along your lips with an applicator or brush.

 

Which is better? 

It totally depends on what you’re most comfortable using or what type of lip effect you’re trying to create.

For example:

For my “Worn-In” lipstick look I used a regular crayon lipstick. 

It was perfect for smudging. 

Liquid lipstick typically dries matte or patent, so it wouldn’t look ideal for a worn-in, blotted effect.

 

For my Blinged Out/Bejeweled lipstick look I also used a traditional lipstick. 

However, liquid lipstick would work just as well, if not better in getting the gems to stick.

 

For my Bold Ombre Lipstick look I used liquid lipsticks. 

They gave me more precision and the ability to trace the lip line. 

Alternatively, you could use a lip liner, but I think the easiest way to go for this bold ombre effect is with liquid lipsticks.

Lipstick Look #1 “Worn-In” Lipstick

1.  Basic Red Lipstick: To start, you really just want to rough out the shape of your lips. 

Lightly fill in your lips as you go, don’t worry about being too precise. 

Don’t apply too much lipstick.

2. Use Your Finger & Smudge: Next, use your finger to rub and smudge the lipstick around your lips. And that will pretty much finish off this look. Really simple and easy to achieve.

And these steps will give us...

Our "Worn-In" Lipstick look!

Really quick and simple to create. 

It's like a blotted lipstick look. Or a I-forgot-to-reapply-my lipstick-look 😅

"Worn-In" lipstick is perfect for everyday looks because it isn't too over the top and can be created in about two minutes. With minimal effort you can have trending fall lips!

 Traditional lipstick is your best bet to create this trend. 

Liquid lipstick would be sticky and a bit of a mess.

The only product I used for my "Worn-In" Lipstick is Colourpop's Lippie Stix in Trust Me.

Lipstick Look #2 Blinged Out/Bejeweled Lipstick

1.  Coat Lips with Red Lipstick: Cover lips with red lipstick. 

We want the lips more saturated in color than our first look.

I used the same lip crayon as I did for my “Worn-In” lipstick, a liquid lipstick would work fine as well.

2. Apply Red Gems to Lips: Take several self-adhesive, rounded red rhinestone face gems (I got mine from Amazon) and stick them onto your bottom lip using tweezers and light pressure.

I tried just pressing them on with my fingers, but it messed up my lipstick a bit.

I placed about 11 gems of varying smaller and larger sizes along my lower lip.

And the final result was...

Blinged Out/Bejeweled Lipstick!

You can totally add more gems for a fuller jeweled look.

Or just use one in the center of your top or bottom lip for extra drama.

I was very aware that these gems were on my lips and mildly concerned about swallowing one 😂

Definitely not an everyday, running to the store look. You can't really eat or drink with them on.

But, how gorgeous for a party or upscale event where drama and fashion are job one.

Removing the gems is pretty easy, you just pull and they pop off.

I wouldn't recommend reusing the gems, one because of sanitary concerns, two I don't think they would stick as well.

This bejeweled lipstick is fun to create, but it does take a little extra time to apply all the gems.

The two products I used for my Blinged Out/Bejeweled lips:

Colourpop: Lippie Stix in Trust Me

Teenitor: Face Gems Self Adhesive Face Rhinestones

Lipstick Look #3 Ombre Lipstick

1. Red Liquid Lipstick: Start by coating lips with a red liquid lipstick.

Note: I loved NYX Liquid Suede lipsticks, but in a true lipstick travesty they have been discontinued (Come on, NYX!). Their "replacement" is alright but in my opinion inferior.

But an equally affordable dupe for their now discontinued red shade Kitten Heels is Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Clock Out.

2. Dark Purple Liquid Lipstick Line: Using a deep purple liquid lipstick trace along your lip line.

Drag some of the purple lipstick towards the center of your lips with your finger to start blending into the red. Don't worry if you get too much purple in the center, you can always add more red.

Dupe: For NYX Liquid Suede in Subversive Socialite, try Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in 52 Dark Purple.

3. Concealer Clean Up: On a small brush take a concealer that matches your skin tone and clean up any excessive lip color that has escaped you lip line.

I also used a powder foundation on a triangle sponge to set the concealer.

Put it all together and you get...

A Bold Ombre Lipstick look!

I couldn't stop laughing at myself throughout putting this look together. 

First it looked like I painted on a mustache, then like I was some sad clown.

This picture is my attempt at not laughing 😂

Tip: Control your laughter until the lipstick dries or it will end up drying with a slight smudge in the upper corner like mine 😅

Very bold, dramatic lips. Perfect for a party or night out

It does take a bit more time to create this lipstick look than the other two so allow yourself the time and don't rush (or laugh!)

And in an ideal situation you wouldn't be applying three lipsticks back to back.

But either way, show your lips some love at the end of the day with some lip scrub and follow up with a good moisturizing balm.

Kansas City Chiefs | Inspired Makeup Tutorial

UPDATED for 2024

Hey there, makeup and football fans!

In honor of Super Bowl LVIII (58) today I'm doing a Kansas City Chiefs inspired makeup tutorial.

I have a brand new San Francisco 49ers tutorial coming too so stay tuned for that. 

I have mixed emotions about KC. 

They knocked my Buffalo Bills out of contention a week ago😞

But I'm a fan of Taylor Swift's music so...

There is no "Bad Blood" here 😉

And just you wait for next season (Don't Stop Bill-ievin' 😁)

I originally posted this tutorial last year when the Kansas City Chiefs were in Super Bowl LVII.

But, I've updated a few things and added duplicates for products that have since been discontinued.

Kansas City Chiefs colors are primarily red and yellow-gold with some white accents.

I went searching for a yellow eyeliner (not something I typically have in my makeup kit) and found a pretty decent option (although it broke when I used it 😅).

How to Create a Kansas City Chiefs Inspired Makeup Look

1. Matte Red Eyeshadow: Not a go-to shade for most, but it is absolutely essential for this look.

Take the shadow and layer it on eyelids, building color to get a nice opaque red.

Cover the lids stopping right at the crease and rounding the shadow as you meet the crease. 

I used NYX Primal Colors in Hot Red which is the best red eyeshadow I have ever used. I'm so disappointed that NYX discontinued this color.

You can get a pretty close shade in their Ultimate Edit Petite Shadow Palette in Phoenix (50% off right now on their website). 

Also, MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Eyeshadow in Werk, Werk, Werk is very similar.

2. Yellow-Gold Eyeliner: Next we need a yellow/gold eyeliner. I ran the liner across my upper lash line a few times until I got the color I wanted. 

Wing the liner out just a little bit. Also take the liner into the inner corners of the eyes.

I used Colourpop Crème Gel Liner in Toucan Do It. 

It broke as I was using it. I thought maybe I was applying too much pressure on the eyeliner so I pressed lighter. A few minutes later it broke again.

I've never had a liner break while I was using it before.

I have Colourpop's Crème Gel Liner in Swerve, a black shade, and have used it many times without any breakage.

Maybe the pigments that give this one the yellow shade are softer?

Whatever the case, if you use this yellow liner be aware that it could break.

3. White Eyeliner & Eyeshadow: Take a white eyeliner pencil and run it along the lower water line of the eye.

Then use a matte white eyeshadow and trace it through the lower lash line.

Use the same white shade on the brow bone to give a nice highlight and add that pop of white.

I used a white eyeliner pencil from N.Y.C. Color Cosmetics. It has since been discontinued.

But, NYX Slim Eye Pencil in White is a nice alternative.

The eyeshadow I used is 'Glitch' from Urban Decay's Wired pressed pigment palette.

If you don't have that palette Sephora Collection Sephora Colorful® Eyeshadow in Let it Snow is a lovely matte white shade.

     

4. Mascara + Highlighter & Blush: Give the eye makeup a dramatic contrast with a black volumizing mascara on the top and bottom lashes. 

Then use a shimmery white highlighter on the top of the cheek bones and on the high points of the face.

I used the red eyeshadow as a blush and blended it into the apples of the cheeks for a subtle flush.

5. Red Liquid Lipstick: With a liquid lipstick trace around your lip line, like a liner, and then fill in the rest of the lips with the glossy red lipstick.

I used NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Absolute Red which has been discontinued also (come on, NYX!)

But Colourpop's Fresh Kiss Glossy Lip Stain in Big Apple is very close.

And finally we have...

Our Kansas City Chiefs inspired makeup look!

Red is definitely the main color in this makeup look. Eyeshadow, lips and accented by the gold and white.

I considered purchasing a white mascara but that seemed like it might be overkill (because this look is so subtle? 😄).

You could always add a little gold shimmer or loose glitter as a topper for the lipstick.

Cincinnati Bengals | Super Bowl | Makeup Tutorial

It's time to put on your game face, makeup fans!

In honor of the Super Bowl, I created a Cincinnati Bengals inspired makeup tutorial for you!

I don't really have a preference of who wins the Super Bowl this year. I like both teams.

Plus, the team I grew up watching every Sunday with my dad, the Buffalo Bills, are out.

That last playoff game vs the Chiefs had me on the edge of my seat, then broke me 😅

But I really admire Josh Allen and how he just went out on the field no matter how much time was left on the clock and just got the job done. I really admire his perseverance and drive. And I can't wait for next season to see what happens for him and the Bills 🏈

Anyway, back to our current season and the Bengals makeup tutorial.

The color palette we're working with for the Cincinnati Bengals consists of orange, black, and white (you know, like a Bengal tiger 🐅).

I don't own a lot of orange makeup, I don't think it looks great with my skin tone, but I do have my trusty NYX Avant Pop Art Throb palette that has plenty of colorful eyeshadows to choose from.

If you don't have that palette, fear not, I have included eyeshadow dupes below 😉  

So without any further discussion let's get started with my Cincinnati Bengals makeup tutorial.

Put Your Game Face [Makeup] On

1. Eyelid Primer + Orange Eyeshadow: For a smooth canvas apply an eyeshadow primer all over eyes, from lid to brow bone.

The foundation of this look is vibrant orange eyeshadow. Blend the orange eyeshadow all over eyelid and a bit into the crease of the eye, rounding the shape as you pack on the color and blend as you go along.

Dupes for the NYX Avant Pop Art Throb orange shade:

ColourPop: Pressed Powder Shadow in Koi (Matte)

ColourPop: Pressed Powder Shadow in Tangerine Dreams (metallic)

2. Matte Black Shadow & a Small Flat Brush: Using a small flat eyeshadow brush trace a line through the crease of the eye starting by curving towards the inner eye and then slightly winging it out at the outer corner of the eye.

3. Liquid Liner + More Black Shadow + Pencil Liner: Run a thin line of liquid liner across the upper lash line and create a bit of a wing. We want a matte finish so take more of the black eyeshadow on an angled eyeliner brush and trace it over the liquid liner to build color intensity.  

On a small bent eyeliner brush add to the liner on the inner corners of the eyes, extending it out a bit for a feline effect. 

Line lower water line with a black eyeliner pencil. Then run more (you guessed it) black eyeshadow along the lower lash line and create a second wing slightly under the first one, leaving a little blank space of skin showing.

4. White Eyeshadow, Mascara and Contour & Highlight: Dust a pearly white eyeshadow onto the brow bone and in between the two shadow wings.

Coat top and bottom lashes with a black mascara so it will stand out against the orange shadow.

Add a subtle contour and highlighter; contour just under the cheek bones and highlight on top of them.

I used the white eyeshadow from NYX Avant Pop palette, a dupe for that shade:

ColourPop: Super Shock Shadow in Tassel 

5. Coral Blush & Orange Liquid Lipstick: An orange blush would be over kill, so use a coral pink one and dust it on to the apples of the cheeks. 

Trace a vivid orange liquid lipstick around the lip line and then carefully fill in the rest of lips with the same shade.  

Put all these steps together and we get...

Our finished Cincinnati Bengals inspired makeup look!

I didn't go too crazy with the tiger stripes because I wanted it to be more wearable and less costume makeup.

Between my camera battery dying, and last minute appointments it took me three tries to record this look. My eyes were beginning to water from all of the makeup removing 😆

ipsy | January 2021 | Glam Bag | Review with Swatches

Hey Beautiful People!

 First Glam Bag of 2021!

I was so stoked and then: Wah-Wah.

It was overwhelmingly 'Meh' for me.😑

Don’t get me wrong the quality of the products are top notch, but the type of products and/or shades aren’t for me. But there is one that is a total star🌟 Read on to find out.

Quick Stats:

Number of Products I'll Use Regularly: 1

My Overall Star Rating for January's Glam Bag: ⭐⭐⭑⭑⭑ (2 out of 5)

Thoughts on January’s Glam Bag: Not their best product selection… Not a 'dream' bag for me. Majority of products are not my taste, but there are some bright spots.

1. BELLE EN ARGENT: 8 Free Nail Polish in Love and Attention

Product: Nail Polish

Brand: Belle En Argent

Name of Shade: Love and Attention

Color: Nude

Finish: Cream

Number of Coats to Get Bottle Shade: 2

Lasts for: 1 ½ to 2 Weeks

 Pros: Long lasting and a lovely cream finish. 

Plus it’s free of eight nasty ingredients: Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, & Triphenyl Phosphate. 

And it is cruelty free, as well as vegan. Definitely a game changer in regards to ingredients.

Cons: The only real con for me is that the shade is not my cup of tea ⛾. More of a con for ipsy than this polish.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭑⭑ (3 out of 5)
Would I Purchase: Not in this shade (but the shade ‘Bore Someone Else’ looks gorgeous!)

Final Thoughts:  A nice nail polish with good staying power. If you like nude/cream shades this one is lovely.

2. FIRMA BEAUTY: 403 Round Blending Brush

Brand: Firma Beauty

Name of Brush: Round Blending 

Feature for Brush: Eyes

Feature I Use it for: Eyes, Under Eyes

Formula it Works Best with: Powder

Blends Makeup Well: Yes

Bristles Splay: None

 

Pros: A small fluffy brush with a rounded tip that is super soft. It is the perfect size for blending out and diffusing shadow through the crease of the eye for a beautiful smoky eye look. It also works well for dusting setting powder under eyes.

Cons: None

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5)

Would I Purchase: Yes

Final Thoughts: A well-built brush that lives up to its name and blends eyeshadow and makeup seamlessly. 

3. SOO'AE: HangBang Sheet Mask Duo in Collagen & Hyaluronic Acid

Brand: Soo'ae

Product: Sheet Masks

Quantity: 2

Formula: Firming & Moisturizing  

Skin Type It Works Best For: Combination to Dry

Pros: I don’t use sheet masks; just have never been my thing. I gave these away so I can’t really say good or bad.

Cons: I can’t say if there is a con with the product.

 

But as for ipsy: I constantly make it clear on my ipsy profile, through re-taking their beauty quiz and rating each bag, that I don’t use or need this type of skin care. So, that’s a con for subscribing to ipsy.

Star Rating: Can’t say, gave it away.

Would I Purchase: N/A

Final Thoughts: This could be the holy grail of sheet masks but I don’t use them so I can’t in good conscience say one way or the other. 

4. STILA COSMETICS: Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick in Patina

Brand: Stila Cosmetics

Product: Lipstick

Name of Shade: Patina

Color: Dusty Rose

Finish: Matte

Formula: Liquid

Smudges/Drying/Sticky: No/No/No

Lasts for: 12+ Hours

 

Pros: This cult-classic totally lives up to the hype! 

It glides on so soft and smooth and it sets to a matte finish. 

It is one of the most comfortable matte finishes I’ve ever used! 

It isn’t drying at all and it truly does last ALL day. 

Even through eating and drinking it stays put and doesn’t smudge or budge. 

It comes in 20+ shades and in shimmer and sheer finishes as well. 

Patina is a gorgeous dusty rose shade, perfect for every occasion.  

Cons: None!

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5)

Would I Purchase: Yes! (And the shade Fiery looks amazing too!)

Final Thoughts: This is a totally fabulous liquid lipstick that is the perfect everyday shade and is so comfortable I forget I’m wearing it. It is crazy long lasting and it does not disappoint!

5. VIOLET VOSS: Single Eyeshadow in Bare it All

Brand: Violet Voss

Product: Eyeshadow

Name of Shade: Bare it All

Color: Bronze

Finish: Shimmer

Formula: Pressed Powder

Fallout: Minimal

Chalky/Flaky: No/No

Blendable: Yes

Lasts for: 6-8 Hours

 

Pros: A pretty, shimmery powder eyeshadow. It sweeps across lids with a lovely wash of bronze and stays put for a pretty decent amount of time. There is minimal to no shadow fallout.

 

Cons: It’s a nice shadow but it’s not better (or worse) than other bronze shimmer eyeshadows. 

My con is more for ipsy (again) for the record number of bronze shadows I’ve received in the last few months.

 

 

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭑⭑ (3 out of 5)

Would I Purchase: Probably Not

 

Final Thoughts: It’s a good eyeshadow and it does last a good long while before creasing. It just isn’t anything that hasn’t been done before.

Definitely not my favorite, but I loved the Stila lipstick!

I'll give ipsy a mulligan on this one; after all, they are coming off of the year 2020.
