ipsy | December 2018 | Review

With the snow storm slamming New York and New England shutting down everything, I am finally finishing up my 2018 ipsy reviews so I can move on to 2019.
We still need to discuss December's glam bag and products 😄

You can watch my quick review here:

ipsy December 2018

First, ipsy gave an extra product in its December glam bags!
That means six (6) products instead of five (5), so I was pretty happy 💖
Plus, the bag was super sparkly, with sequins all over it, so it scored extra points with me.

Quick Stats:

Number of Products I will Use Regularly: 4
Star Rating of Bag Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆ (4 out of 5)
Thoughts on this Month's Bag: I'm rather happy with the products I received. Not a huge fan of the white nail polish, but it will make a nice base for glitters. Dislike the hair product (keep reading). Love the other four products.

Without any further ado, here are the products I received in December's 2018 ipsy bag:

1.  LOTTIE LONDON: AM to PM Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Mocha

Product: Eyeliner
Size: Mini
Brand: Lottie London
Name of Shade: Mocha
Color: Dark Brown
Finish: Matte
Formula: Kohl/Pencil
Waterproof: Yes (So far!)
Lasts For: 8+ Hours

Pros: This mini eyeliner is lovely! It goes on smooth, with no tugging and no smudging or streaking.
Cons: A little soft, but as long as you don't apply too much pressure, you're good.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆
Would I Purchase a Full Size? Very likely

Final Thoughts: Terrific liner, great for creating precision lines or blending and smoking out for a smokey eye look.

2. TINCT COSMETICS: Nail Polish in Bilbao

Product: Nail Polish
Brand: TINCT Cosmetics
Name of Shade: Bilbao
Color: White
Finish: Crème (Standard)
Number of Coats to Get Bottle Shade: 2
Last for: 1 Week+

Pros: Nice, solid, opaque polish. Stays on well. Lasts about as long as any other polish. Great base for a sheerer glitter shade.
Cons: I'm not a fan of the shade, but there are no real flaws with the polish.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆
Would I Purchase a Full Size? Not in this shade

Final Thoughts: A decent polish, nothing new, but it works well.

3. CIATÉ LONDON: Glitter Flip Transforming Glitter Liquid Lipstick in Infamous

Product: Lipstick
Brand: Ciaté London
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Infamous
Color: Berry
Formula: Liquid
Finish: Matte/Glitter
Lasts for: 8+ Hours

Pros: Beautiful glitter! It goes on a comfortable matte and within minutes it has a pretty glittery finish. Crazy comfortable and long lasting. Doesn't smudge, budge, or dry out lips. The brush is the perfect shape for applying to the contour of the lips. I am in love with this lipstick!
Cons: None!

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Would I Purchase a Full Size? Yes, in every shade!

Final Thoughts: A truly fabulous glitter lipstick! So incredibly comfortable, you will forget you're wearing lipstick at all. And it has the prettiest subtle glitter finish!

4. F.A.R.A.H BRUSHES: Tapered Blending Brush 35E

Brand: F.A.R.A.H Brushes
Name of Brush: Tapered Blending Brush 35E
Used For: Eyeshadow
Finish it Gives: Soft/Blended
Formula it Works Best with: Powder
Bristles Splay? None Yet

Pros: Soft bristles, stylish handle. It works well for eyeshadow, as it is intended, but I also like to use it for powder foundation or setting powder under the eyes and around the nose.
Cons: It's lightweight, but maybe a little too much so. The handle is narrow and doesn't have the natural weight of a brush, so it is a bit uncomfortable to work with.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆
Would I Purchase Another: Maybe

Final Thoughts: Overall; a very nice brush, works well, handle feels awkward.

5. OUAI: Dry Shampoo Foam

Product: Dry Shampoo
Brand: OUAI
Formula: Foam

Pros: Nice scent.
Cons: Dry shampoo foam? The concept itself confused me, but I figured I'd give it a try (after all, "dry-oil" works wonders on my hair).
It did not work. Dry shampoo is supposed to soak up excess oil, perk up hair to give an extra day (or two) between washes.
This product literally did nothing. I tried it multiple different times with no results. Save your money because this one is a big thumbs down👎

Star Rating: ⭐⋆⋆⋆⋆
Would I Purchase a Full Size: No.

Final ThoughtsI wanted to like, I really did, but this product just didn't do what it said it would.

6. KATHERINE COSMETICS: Natural All-Over Powder in Sienna

(It's hard to swatch highlighter on my skin)

Product: Highlighter
Brand: Katherine Cosmetics
Name of Shade: Sienna
Color: Peachy-Champagne
Finish: Shimmer
Formula: Powder
Lasts For: All Day

Pros: Beautiful, blendable shimmer that is perfect for highlighting the cheeks, browbone, etc.
It gives the perfect lit-from-within glow.
Cons: A little crumbly, with the tiniest bit of fallout.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆
Would I Purchase a Full Size? Very Likely

Final Thoughts: Excellent highlighter, even with the little bit of fallout, still an awesome product!

Here is one of the looks I created with some of December's products:

Lottie London: AM to PM Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Mocha
Ciaté London: Glitter Flip Transforming Glitter Liquid Lipstick in Infamous
Katherine Cosmetics: Natural All-Over Powder in Sienna

Party Makeup | Glitter Eyeshadow & Red Lipstick | Tutorial

To me, nothing says "party makeup" like glitter and bold lipstick.
Although, for me "partying" is just reading a book in a different location.
But there is no reason why I can't have fabulous makeup while doing so!

You can watch the video tutorial here:

What You Will Need

1. Eyeshadow Primer & Matte Peach Shadow: Prep the lids by applying a thin layer of primer with your ring finger & then gently sweep peach shadow over entire eye.

2. Medium Matte Brown & Warm Shimmering Brown Shadows: Cut the crease with brown shades to start adding depth.

3. Matte Black Eyeshadow: Cover lids with matte black shadow to get an intense base for the glitter eyeshadow.

4. Light Blue Glitter Eyeshadow: Press the glitter all over eyelids, layering and building up the glitter.

5. Gel Liner, White Glitter Shadow & Volumizing Mascara: Line the top lash line with gel eyeliner, run white glitter under lower line, and coat top & bottom lashes with mascara.

6. Clean & Conceal: Dust off excess glitter fallout with a clean fluffy brush and add concealer under the eyes.

7. Contour, Highlight & Blush: Run contour shade under cheekbone, add a shimmery champagne highlighter to tops of cheeks and apply a rosy shade blush to apples of cheeks.

8. Bright Red Lipstick: Coat lips with a true red liquid lipstick until the color is rich and opaque.

9. Set with Powder and Setting Spray: Set face with a pressed powder foundation that matches your skin tone and seal it with a setting spray.

I started applying the glitter shadow with a flat laydown brush and finished by using my middle finger to press it on for a more saturated glitter look.

To clean up the glitter fallout I used Maybelline's Fit Me Concealer under my eyes and dotted it in to sort of a triangle shape before I blended it with my ringer finger, then used a brush to smooth it out.

I set most of my makeup looks with pressed powder foundation (I use MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW10). I apply it with a makeup sponge to my jawline, bridge of my nose, and forehead.

This red lipstick is from NYX and it is incredibly comfortable, especially for a matte lipstick. It goes on smooth and lasts for many hours.
